This page explains the terms and conditions for custom and commissioned work by Lisa Rutherford Arts. By requesting or paying for a commission, you agree to these terms.

Scope of Work

Commissions may include pottery, feather capes, mantles, historic clothing, or other custom projects. Each piece is handmade and unique. The full scope of work will be confirmed in writing before work begins.

Quotes & Approval

• All quotes are provided in writing by email.
• Quotes include materials, labor, estimated timeline, and delivery details.
• Quotes are valid for 30 days. Work will not begin until written approval is received.

Deposits & Payment

• A non-refundable deposit (typically 50%) is required before work begins or materials are purchased.
• The remaining balance is due before delivery, pickup, or shipment unless otherwise agreed in writing.
• Museums and institutions may arrange alternate payment terms with a signed contract.

Timelines

• Estimated completion dates are provided during the quoting process.
• Large or detailed pieces may require several months.
• Timelines may be adjusted due to teaching, cultural obligations, or health considerations, but updates will always be communicated.

Changes & Cancellations

• Design or material changes must be agreed in writing and may affect cost and timeline.
• Deposits are non-refundable once work has started or materials are purchased.
• If a project is canceled after work begins, the deposit is forfeited and additional costs may apply.

Artistic Integrity & Cultural Considerations

• Lisa Rutherford Arts reserves the right to refuse commissions that misrepresent or misuse Cherokee cultural traditions.
• Final design and execution decisions will be made to preserve cultural and artistic integrity.

Ownership & Use

• The physical piece belongs to the client once fully paid.
• All cultural, design, and reproduction rights remain with Lisa Rutherford Arts unless agreed otherwise in writing.
• Images of the commissioned piece may be used for portfolio, educational, or marketing purposes.

Shipping & Delivery

• Shipping costs are the client’s responsibility unless otherwise stated.
• Insured shipping is strongly recommended.
• Lisa Rutherford Arts is not responsible for carrier delays or damage once shipped.

Returns & Refunds

• All commissions are final sale.
• Refunds are only possible in cases of confirmed shipping damage, reported within 5 calendar days of delivery with clear photos.
• If replacement is possible, a new timeline will be set.
