Effective Date: August 31, 2025
Overview
All of my work is handmade using historically informed Cherokee techniques. Many pieces require weeks or months to complete. This policy explains how I schedule, accept, and fulfill orders for commissions, demonstrations, classes, and other professional engagements.
Custom and Commissioned Work
- Quote process: For all custom or commissioned work, I will provide a written quote based on size, materials, complexity, and current schedule.
- Deposits: A non-refundable deposit is required to secure the booking and cover materials. Work will not begin until the deposit has been received.
- Final payment: The remaining balance is due before delivery or shipment unless otherwise agreed in writing.
- Changes: Any change to the scope, materials, or deadlines after work has begun must be agreed upon in writing and may affect cost and delivery time.
- Ownership: All commissioned pieces remain my property until paid for in full.
Timelines
- Feather mantles/capes: Depending on size and style, completion may require 3 weeks to 6 months.
- Historic clothing: Most outfits require at least 2 months, especially if beadwork is requested.
- Pottery: Timelines depend on size, style, and drying/firing conditions; estimates will be provided in advance.
- Workload considerations: I balance commissions with teaching, demonstrations, and personal obligations; timelines reflect these commitments.
Demos & Historic Interpretation
- Booking: Demonstrations are typically booked by museums, cultural organizations, or event coordinators.
- Agreements: Fees, travel arrangements, and lodging must be confirmed in writing before the event date.
- Performance: I arrive prepared and on time, dressed in historically accurate clothing, and follow event guidelines.
Classes, Workshops, and Lectures
- Scheduling: Classes may be offered through Cherokee Nation programs, other tribal nations, museums, or cultural institutions.
- Student selection: For mentorship programs, students are hand-selected based on skill, commitment, and prior experience.
- Frequency: Due to the demands of production and travel, I may limit workshops to one or two per year.
Exhibits
I participate in exhibits by invitation or, occasionally, by submitting a proposal. Proposals are evaluated based on cultural alignment, prestige, and schedule availability. Sales are not the primary goal of exhibits; participation is primarily for exposure and education.
Cancellations and Refunds
- Once a deposit is received, it is non-refundable.
- Cancellations must be made in writing. In certain cases, a partial refund of any balance paid (excluding the deposit) may be offered if work has not begun.
- For events, demonstrations, or classes, cancellations within 30 days of the scheduled date are non-refundable unless otherwise agreed in writing.
Communication
- Email is the preferred form of communication to ensure all project details are documented.
- Phone calls may be scheduled as needed, but all final agreements and changes must be confirmed in writing.
Contact
All booking and production-related inquiries must be submitted in writing.
